MARGAO: The repair work of the valve of pipeline that needed attention from the Public Works Department for the last 15 years got repaired within a few hours, following a news published in Herald highlighting the issue.
Herald in its edition dated June 7 had reported the the PWD Water Division’s failure in repairing leakage in valve of a pipeline at Manora, Raia. The locals had alleged that the PWD officials failed to repair the valve, despite registering several complaints, leading to wastage of gallons of water.
Now, the locals, mainly the people residing close to the site, have thanked Herald for highlighting the issue, upon which the department rushed to the site and the repaired the valve.
It is pertinent to note till Heald swug into action, there was no serious intent shown by the authorities to undertake the reapirs and prevent wasatage of water, near the St. Anthony Chapel, Manora.
Menino Quadros, a local, thanked Herald for highlighting the issue and said that the valve got repaired soon after the news item appeared in the newspaper, that too within few hours.
“This will certainly save huge quantity of water, which was otherwise getting wasted. Locals were very much upset due to the leakage and no seriousness from the part of PWD”, he said.
It was shocking to know that even the officials of the PWD failed to respect the grievances raised by the local elected representatives for the past 15 years. People were very much upset with approach of the concerned officials for neglecting the issue and that too at the time when every one is grapping with the increase in water tariff and irregular water supply.
