CALANGUTE: Embarrassed by the novel protest of locals in painting a speed breaker at Nagoa, the PWD got its act together and painted the speed breakers along the Nagoa-Parra-Mapusa road.
Acting on a report in the Herald highlighting the novel protest of the locals, the PWD undertook the task to paint the speed breakers along the Nagoa-Parra-Mapusa road.
It may be recalled that a delay by the PWD in painting the speed-breakers had led to angry reactions from locals, who had claimed that motorists had been caught unawares by the virtually invisible speed-breakers. As a result, a few mishaps involving the unsuspecting motorists were reported in the area.
Acting on the Herald report, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo had sought immediate action from the PWD following the protest by the Nagoa locals.
While locals and motorists heaved a sigh of relief after the PWD painted the speed breakers, Lobo admitted that the painting of speed breakers had been delayed.
“The PWD was directed to immediately paint the speed breakers after some of them were painted by locals. Though there was a long delay in painting them, I am happy that the work was completed immediately following the protest by locals,” said Lobo.
“There has been lot of developmental works in my constituency and hence, minor works are at times delayed. But they will be completed before the monsoon.”
