PWD, Valpoi locals urged to check water leakage

VALPOI: A dripping tap can waste as much as one litre of water per hour, point out PWD officials during any awareness campaign.
Nevertheless, what will you say if the same department fails to plug water leakage or fix a ruptured water supply line in your area? Few prominent citizens found that everyone, including the residents and the department concerned, should be conscious to prevent and stop leakage of potable water.
Valpoi PWD (water supply) office is presently supplying potable water from Dabos water treatment plant (10 MLD plus 5 MLD) to Valpoi town and nearby villages in the Sattari Taluka.
However, the supply is not leakage free. Certain leakage points have been identified by the residents themselves. At many places, the water is getting wasted in thousands of litres as the particular pipeline is ruptured. The pipeline can also suffer damage due to construction or digging work, but the concerned authority which causes the damage inadvertently, never informs the PWD and mostly it is only the conscious citizens who alert the PWD about the water leakages, said a resident.
He said that despite some areas in Valpoi facing water shortage thousands of litres of potable water is going waste from the leaking pipeline.
