PWD’s ‘unplanned’ road digging work causes water shortage in Undir, Kavlem

Locals accuse contractor of leaving work at Undir incomplete and for starting road digging work in Kavlem causing problems to residents of both villages

PONDA: The residents of Undir-Bandora and Kavlem-Donkhamb have blamed the PWD water supply officials for “unplanned” road digging work to lay underground 11 kv electricity  cables, which they claim has ruptured domestic water pipelines leading to water shortage in these areas.

Undir locals claimed that while digging the road, the workers damaged the domestic water pipelines causing severe hardship to them thereby affecting water supply in their area.

Locals said that they even confronted the PWD officials on the issue, but, despite this, they claimed there is no improvement.

The locals accused the contractor of leaving the work at Undir incomplete.

They further complained that the contractor has now started the road digging work in Kavlem causing problems to the residents of both the villages.

The locals demanded proper co-ordination between the contractor and PWD water supply officials while carrying out the digging work to lay underground power cables.

They complained that the workers have no knowledge as to where the underground water pipelines are located and have continued with the digging work and damaged water pipelines, which has led to the water shortage.

The locals demanded that PWD officials should supervise the work to ensure no pipelines are damaged in future.
