PANJIM: As many as 17 nomination papers were filed on Wednesday for the village panchayat and Zilla Panchayat (ZP) by-elections scheduled on June 23.
With the 17 nominations, the total number of nominations filed for the panchayat and ZP by-polls by the end of the nominations stood at 39.
Wednesday was the last date to file nomination papers. The scrutiny of nominations will now be held on June 13 from 10 am onwards, while withdrawals will be allowed on June 14, from 10 am to 2 pm.
The polling, if necessitated, will be held using ballot papers on June 23 from 8 am to 5 pm.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), on Wednesday, three nominations were filed for ward number X (reserved for SC) in Socorro panchayat, three nominations were filed for ward number II (reserved for OBC candidates) of Xeldem panchayat, one nomination was filed for ward number VII (reserved for women) of Cundaim panchayat, three nominations were filed for ward number III (reserved for ST candidates) of Querim panchayat, one nomination was filed for ward number II of Volvoi panchayat, two nominations were filed for ward number I (reserved for women) of Assolna panchayat, and one nomination was filed for ward number V (reserved for ST women candidates) in Rachol panchayat.
For the Benaulim ZP constituency, three nominations were filed on the last day of filing nominations, taking the total number of nominations filed to four.
