P’yat demands action against Tourism officials for razing fisherman’s hut

PERNEM: The Morjim panchayat has demanded strict action against the officials of Tourism  Department who were involved in demolition of fisherman’s hut at Vithaldaswada, Morjim about eight days ago as they extended a helping hand to the owner of the structure.

Deputy sarpanch Pavan Morje, former sarpanch and panch Mandar Poke, former deputy sarpanch Amit Shetgaonkar and local fishermen were present when panchayat members handed over the envelope to the fisherman.

It can be recalled that on the occasion of Narli Poornima, the Tourism Department had razed down a hut claiming it to be an encroachment on government land. However, local fishermen had been erecting huts on the beach for decades to keep their boats and fishing nets. An action without a prior notice had taken the fishermen aback.

Enraged by this high handed act, they had also questioned the authority’s selective attack on local establishments and not on the high profile resorts which are violating CRZ rules.
