CURCHOREM: The Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) has commenced a special drive to recover trade and property tax dues. The QMC has also started carrying out inspection to identify how many shops have been sublet by the owners in its jurisdiction.
According to QMC Chairperson Raul Pereira, there are around 800 shops in and around the Quepem market, in private and five municipal buildings.
“Eight shops have been sealed for failing to pay the trade tax and more will be sealed during the drive, which will continue,” Pereira said.
He informed that the council team of Chief Officer Rohit Kadam, Municipal Engineer Abhishek Dessai, Marketing Inspector Krishna Chemulkar and Senior Supervisor Gopinath Naik along with labourers will inspect the shops, which have been sublet by the owners so as to collect property tax.
“The property tax will be one month rent fixed by the owners, while subletting their shops to the second/third party,” Pereira added.
