CURCHOREM: The team constituted by Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) to inspect a proposed building at Quepem visited the site. It may be recalled that flat owners complained to QMC that excavation of land for the proposed building, which is adjacent to their building, had led to flooding in the area and cracks on the walls of their existing building.
When contacted, the QMC Engineer Nitin Kotharkar informed Herald that the team consisting of PWD Engineer Kennedy Pereira, Chief Officer Shivaji Dessai and himself has directed the owner of the building to construct the retaining wall to protect the soil erosion and directed owner’s Engineer Shyamkant Naik to prepare new RCC drawing of the proposed building.
When asked about the cracks developed on the existing building as claimed by complainants, Kotharkar informed that letter has been written to the Goa Engineering College, asking them to prepare a stability report of these existing adjacent buildings in the vicinity.
“A final decision will be taken after submitting the new RCC drawing and the stability report by GEC” stated Kotharkar.
When this reporter tried to contact QMC Chief Officer Dessai, he refused to answer the call and later switched off his mobile phone.
