MARGAO:  An illegal scrapyard along with cubicles housing migrants located on the roadside at Angdi, Loutolim, was razed down by the Loutolim village panchayat on Tuesday under police protection.
The owner Valerian Fernandes cried foul over the demolition, accusing Sarpanch Maria Monteiro for taking revenge against him for raising her registration of birth in Portugal.
The demolition was carried out by the demolition squad in the presence of Sarpanch Maria Monteiro and Salcete BDO M S Mardolkar.
In a statement, the Sarpanch said the same illegal cubicles and scrapyard were earlier demolished by the Comunidade of Loutolim on 14/12/2012 as the same were erected in property belonging to the Comunidade. She said the cubicles and the scrapyard were re-erected again forcing the panchayat to initiate a fresh process of site inspection in January 2013 followed by issue of show-cause notice, demolition notice and after following due process the present demolition was carried out on 25/2/2014 after more than a year.
Valerinano, however, told the media that he has been singled out.
