MARGAO: Will Cuncolim get to see the high mast promised to be inaugurated on April 22 this year to mark the birthday of Rajya Sabha Member Shantaram Naik? The answer is ‘YES’ if the MP’s wish is to be fulfilled and ‘NO’ if the MLA’s directive holds even though both of them belong to the Congress party.
This question cropped up at the meeting convened by MLA Clafacio Dias yesterday with the officials and elected members at Margao when Cuncolim Municipal Council chairperson raised the matter.
She said while the MP was sponsoring the high mast, the bill for the power consumed would have to be paid by the council and she asserted that the council cannot afford to pay the bill as it is already burdened with a bill of around Rs 9 lakh for another high mast erected at Panzorconi.
All present suggested that the Rajya Sabha member be told to erect the High Mast only if he could arrange to pay the electricity bill through the Rs 5 crore he gets for MPLAD per year or else not to go ahead with the installation.
