VASCO: The opposition to the hotel project, proposed at Kesarval Spring, has been growing day by day. After objections by Quelossim villagers and Quelossim Village Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC), now the Village Development Committee constituted by the Quelossim gram sabha also resolved to oppose the project in the area.
The decision was taken during the VDC meeting of Quelossim Village Panchayat held on Thursday, attended by 15 VDC members including the panchayat body.
The issue was raised by VDC convenor Lopinho Xavier, who said though the gram sabha had asked the panchayat body for beautification of Kesarval spring, which was once known for its medicinal value, during the planning process the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has proposed a 35-room business hotel project at Kesarval Spring, which VDC opposed.
It was decided that VDC would also meet Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and request her to intervene, so that GTDC would concentrate on beautification of Kesarval Spring and not initiate the hotel project.
“As decided by the VDC and villagers we will not allow any hotel project at Kesarval spring. Actually our demand was to beautify the area. If the hotel project came up in the area all sewage, garbage etc would pollute the spring water and then there will be no point of developing the area into tourist spot,” he said.
