VASCO: After lengthy discussions on the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), the Quelossim gram sabha rejected the plan on Sunday.
The gram sabha also passed a unanimously resolution demanding that the CZMP be prepared by the government and the local bodies (panchayat) based on the ground realities.
The gram sabha members rejected the draft CZMP for the following reasons: The River Zuari is shown as Mandovi; most of the high tide lines were demarcated wrongly, for example, high tide line is shown in khazan land and is demarcated as CRZ-II undeveloped area.
The gram sabha members also pointed out that none of the existing sluice gate (manas) is demarcated. The part of the mangroves stretch protecting the bundhs of the khazan land of Survey No 170/0 (at the edges of the creeks) is not demarcated.
The existing fields are demarcated as salt meshes and mangroves stretch is also shown in the fields.
The gram sabha later passed a unanimous resolution demanding that the CZMP must be prepared by the State government and the local bodies (panchayat) based on the ground realities so that the government and the panchayats do not blame the other authorities entrusted to prepare the CZMP.
