VASCO: Quelossim panchayat has issued a stop work notice to a project proponent of a private project to halt use of heavy machinery in a khazan land since the matter is sub judice.
The panchayat also issued notice to the private party to conduct site inspection on Monday.
The panchayat issued the stop work notice acting upon the complaint from Quelossim Village Biodiversity Committee chairman Lopinho Xavier.
Xavier informed that he complained to the panchayat that despite the matter being sub judice, the project proponent of a private project is continuing with work using heavy machinery.
The letter was also sent to the Goa State Biodiversity Board, and it further directed the matter to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Committee for necessary action and sent the action taken report.
He informed that based on his complaint the panchayat issued stop work order to the project proponent on June 2 and asked him to produce necessary permissions and relevant documents. On June 3, after learning that the work has continued, the panchayat issued the notice of site inspection on June 7 and once again asked to stop the work immediately in the property.
Meanwhile, acting sarpanch Sebastiao Serrao confirmed the details from Xavier. “We informed the BDO and Verna Police about this and expected that BDO will instruct the police to stop the work but the request fell on deaf ears. We will conduct site inspection on Monday,” Serrao said.
