Quepem Adivasi Sanghatana rallies behind Shel-Melauli villagers

Holds candlelight rally at Quepem Municipal Garden Square

QUEPEM: Adivasi Sanghatana Quepem organised a candlelight rally in support of Shel-Melauli villagers, who are protesting against the IIT project, at Melauli.

In the rally held at Quepem Municipal Garden Square, around 300 locals 

from Rivona, Tilamol-Quepem and social activists provided their support to the Shel-Melauli villagers in their protest and rallied behind them in wake of atrocities meted out to them.

The Gawda, Kunbi, Velip and Dhangar (GAKUVED) Federation’s Rupesh Velip, APP Curchorem Convenor James Fernandes, Social Activist Abijit Prabudesai made their present felt.

The Adivasi Sanghatana Quepem made the following demands in support of Shel-Melauli villagers: To drop proposed IIT project at Melauli, revoke Collector’s order for ‘Transfer of Land and Subsequent Proceedings’, revoke Mutation entry in the name of IIT Goa in the land record for Survey Number 67/1, Melauli village; quash all the FIRs registered against the protestors, rectify the land records for Survey Number 67/1, Melauli with the names of all the cultivators and occupants and revoke all the orders transferring 13 government employees from Melauli for opposing the project. 

Adivasi Sanghatana Quepem President Joao Fernandes said that unless and until these demands are met, the villagers will continue protesting.
