Quepem Carnival floats today

Traditional Intrumez began with Khell Tiatr and other programmes in villages of the taluka

QUEPEM: ‘Niz Kalakar’ Ambaulim-Quepem presented ‘Intrumez’ a traditional celebration of Carnival, on Sunday.
The ‘Intrumez’ was presented as a part of three-day celebrations of Carnival at Quepem under the banner of Navyug Vikas Manch (NVM) Quepem. Various folk songs, dances were presented by John Fernandes and his troupe, followed by Khell Tiatr at Quepem Municipal Council garden.
Speaking on the occasion, Quepem MLA Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar, who is also chairman of NVM, said NVM is celebrating the Carnival festival for the last 14 years without any financial support from the government.
“We are organizing the festival on our own with support from well-wishers for the entertainment of people from Quepem and surrounding areas, as all the people cannot afford to travel to Panjim, Margao or Vasco,” said Kavlekar.
Briefing about the details of the programme to be held this year, he said the ‘Intrumez’ and Khell Tiatr were being held. He also spoke about the musical show on Monday where youth from Quepem would participate in the singing and various other competitions. On Tuesday, a float parade will be held where Goa Pradesh Committee Chief Luizinho Faleiro will be chief guest, while Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva will be guest of honour.
