QUEPEM: Farmers and locals of Kopalamoddi Diao, Quepem on Saturday raised doubt over the ongoing construction of retaining wall by the side of road, which touches the fields.
A villager, Melvin Carvalho, questioned the authority why the work was delay, which just started before the onset of monsoons.
“It is very dangerous to construct a retaining wall in the rainy season. Last year, this retaining wall collapsed due to pressure of rain water from the fields. Today, same thing is repeated again. We are not against government’s development work, but it should be planned properly and proper material must be used for construction,” said Carvalho.
Another local and activist Joao Fernandes alleged that the work which is in progress is of low standard, wherein low quality material is used. Material such as ‘moorsa’ is used instead of sand.
“I have already complained to the PWD Assistant Engineer on this issue and he has assured me that he will personally look into the matter,” said Fernandes.
“If the wall collapses again it will create problems to the farmers and their fields,” he added.
Pascol Fernandes said that it is totally irresponsible act by the concerned authority doing such important work in an unplanned manner. It is totally misuse of public fund.
