A copy of the memorandum was also given to Power Minister Milind Naik, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Chairman Nilesh Cabral, GTDC Managing Director and Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) Chairperson Dayesh Naik.
The memorandum stated that the high-mast lamp, which was installed by the Tourism Department, was not functioning for over six months and nobody was bothered to repair it. QCC urged the electricity department to repair the same with the original spare parts so that it functioned properly.
QCC Vice President Evangelisto Da Costa informed that beside the high mast lamp, the lights that were installed by QMC around the public garden were also non-functional. He said, “Some of the streetlights from the Quepem police station to Quepem market are also not functioning. The entire market is almost in darkness and no authority is bothered to check it.”
He said there was no need for the public to complain about the streetlights as the authorities must check it themselves and repair the same urgently to avoid hardships for the public and motorists. He stated, “Thank the Quepem police for night patrolling, otherwise thieves could have taken advantage of the darkness to rob the shops and houses in and around the market.”
Quepem Assistant Engineer Mahadev Appa said he has written a letter to the Tourism Department informing them about the non-functional high mast lights. He stated, “It is the property of the Tourism Department, and therefore they are maintaining it.”
