CURCHOREM: A group of Quepem residents called on the local MLA and Opposition Leader Chandrakant Kavlekar on Wednesday at his office and urged him to request the municipality to reconsider its decision to collect one month rent from the owners letting out their premises.
After hearing them, Kavlekar assured them that he would request the council to accept the demand of the residents and reconsider their decision to collect the one month rent.
“I know that some people are not very strong financially and depend on the income generated from the rent, for their livelihood. Therefore, I will defiantly urge the council to cancel their decision to collect one month rent from the residents who has rented their premises for residential purpose,” Kavlekar said in the presence of councillor Filu D’Çosta.
When contacted, QMC Chairperson Raul Pereira confirmed that the municipality has taken a decision to collect one month rent from the owners who have given their premises on rent.
“We are collecting one month rent from the owners who had given their premises to use for commercial establishments and the survey was in progress to verify the premises rented out for residential purpose,” said Pereira
“To consider the decision of the residents we have to put such proposal before the council meeting for reconsideration,” said Pereira and assured to examine the proposal/demand of the residents after placing it before the next council meeting.
