QUEPEM: Barcem, Morpilla and Khola locals alleged that the government and the Public Works Department (PWD) were fully responsible for the ‘bad condition’ of the roads in Quepem constituency.
“Neither the government nor the PWD officials are interested in repairing or asphalting the road connecting the villages. We are suffering a lot as these roads are in a pathetic condition for the last three to four years”, the locals said.
A local Subhash Velip said, “The condition of roads connecting the village of Barcem is horrible. The authorities should carry out repair works to the damaged roads and re-lay them wherever needed”.
“The delay in re-laying roads led to water stagnation on the trenches and pits on the roads causing inconvenience to motorists. Youth from our village have been working together to clear the pits and cleaning the gutters. Overflowing drains during rainy days also affect the roads. The government should start the repair work on immediate basis”, said Prashant Velip from Barcem village.
Another local Vinay Velip urged the government and local MLA to repair the road at the earliest claiming that the washed away road has become a death trap for the motorists. “As far as my knowledge the asphalting was done in April 2017 but the same year it got washed away after the rains and was a death trap for the motorist. The authorities should not ignore these roads only because it is a rural area’, Vinay added.
