QUEPEM: Suchita Shirvaikar and William Fernandes were elected chairperson and vice-chairperson of Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) respectively.
Suchita defeated Jakina Dias by 9-4 vote-margin and William secured 9 votes followed by Lourdes Fernandes (3) and Nandita Prabhudessai (1).
After the election, Suchita thanked the councillors and Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar for their support and assured to work for the overall development of the municipality.
William said his main aim is to help ST community, especially the youth who are unemployed.
He assured all possible support to them with the help of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar.
Quepem SDM Nilesh Dhaigodkar was the Presiding Officer.
The Deputy Chief Minister congratulated the new councillors including newly-elected chairperson Suchita and vice-chairperson William on the occasion.
“I am thankful to the Quepem residents for supporting the councillors. Under this council, development will flourish as I extend my full support to them. Past councillors and chairpersons too have done good work and the same will continue during this council’s tenure,” Kavlekar added.
