In a disturbing case reported from Quepem, police have arrested a man accused of repeatedly raping his minor sister over a period of five years. The arrest followed a formal complaint filed by the victim at the Quepem Police Station on Monday, with the assistance of local activists.
According to Advocate Pratima Coutinho, who spoke to O Heraldo, the victim revealed that the abuse began years ago and continued until recently. She alleged that her brother not only sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions but also inflicted severe physical violence. The girl was reportedly assaulted on her legs so badly that she could barely walk at the time of lodging her complaint.
Coutinho emphasized the bravery of the victim in breaking her silence after years of fear and trauma. The complaint, she noted, was made possible through the intervention and support of women’s rights activists who encouraged the girl to approach the authorities despite the emotional and social challenges involved.
Quepem Police acted promptly after recording the statement, arresting the accused brother on Tuesday. Officials have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to gather medical evidence, corroborate the victim’s testimony, and determine the full scope of the abuse.
