CURCHOREM: The Quepem taluka registered 84.51 percent voting and went peacefully without any untoward incident reported.
According to Returning Officer Pratap Gaunkar total 13,310 (47.55 percent) male and 14,686 (52.45 percent) female cast their votes to elect new bodies in 11 panachayats in Quepem taluka.
In Ambaulim panchayat 84.55 percent voting was registered, while in Assolda 83.77, Avedem-Cottombi 79.27, Balli 86.37, Cavrem 88.66, Fatorpa 8.70, Molcornem 84.72, Morpila 92.13, Naqueri Betul 79.27, Xeldem 80.51 and Barcem 81.10 percent.
Earlier, 308 candidates filed their nomination for 11 panchayats in Quepem taluka and later 250 candidates remained in the fray and four candidates were elected unopposed.
Speaking to Herald RO Gaunkar said that this is the first time that in Ambaulim the voters turned out on time and therefore the voting was concluded on time otherwise it was always gets over around 10 to 11 pm. “Every time there was law and order problem, but this time it went on peacefully without any untoward incident due to cooperation given by the villagers,” Gaunkar said.
Meanwhile, speaking to media Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral said that whoever wins has to work with the local MLA so people knew whom to vote. “Since the election is not fought on party line I am not fully involved in the elections except in two-three wards.”
, but I am confident that people will elect right persons and definitely sarpanchas will be my supporters in both the panchayats of Assolda and Xeledem.
