Residents from Quepem and Sanguem talukas under the banner of ‘Ganv Rakhon Jagrut Manch’, Curchorem, and other organisations from Quepem will stage a major ‘bandh’ on January 27.
The agitation has been planned to protest against the uncontrolled and unplanned mining traffic and proposed four-laning of the road from Tilamol to Sanguem.
The villagers have claimed that the mining transport operating via Quepem-Curchorem-Sanguem road has been causing health hazards, traffic jams as a result school children are not able to reach school in time nor at home after school, office-goers cannot reach in time for their work.
“To find a solution to the problem faced by the villagers by way of a bypass, the government has decided to construct a four-lane road on the existing Tilamol-Sanguem court road by demolishing houses and compound walls, and with this regard the government had issued Section 4 of Land Acquisition Act,” said the villagers.
As a protest, the agitated villagers from Quepem have decided to observe total ‘bandh’ on January 27.
Meanwhile, the Quepem Merchant Association and Motorcycle and Richshaw Association have also decided to support the ‘bandh’ call given by the villagers of Quepem, Curchorem and Sanguem.
Its president Remedio Rebello has appealed to all the shopkeepers to keep their shops close and vehicles off the road on January 27.
