MARGAO, DEC 26

Saturday night Temple burglary at Quittol village is the second major temple burglary in Quepem taluka within the last one month.
While the Chandreshwar Temple burglary at Paroda is still fresh in the minds of the people, last night theft has put the men-in-uniform in an embarrassing situation, having failed to detect the Paroda case till date.
Incidentally, in the Paroda Temple case too which has occurred on the night of November 23, the burglars had laid their hands on silver item valued over Rs 25 lakh.
Asked whether the two burglaries is the handiwork of a single gang of thieves, Superintendent of Police, South Allan De Sa said that “it could be so”, but said the police are working on a clue in the Quittol case to nab the culprits. “In both the cases, the burglars targeted the silver items from the Temples. We are working on various clues”, he said.
After the daring Chandreshwar Temple Burglary, the district police had dispatched a police team to Karnataka to find out similar thefts in the Honavar area of the state, but the team has returned back without any major clues.
Replying to a question, the district police chief said the police has constituted teams to visit Temples, especially for night patrolling.
