VALPOI: In a bid to restore harmony between both communities, representatives of both groups have amicably resolved the ‘Qurbani’ (sacrifice) issue regarding bull slaughter at a joint meeting in Valpoi.
Later addressing a news conference at Valpoi, both groups appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in the area.
Insisting that there would be no space for communal forces in Valpoi in future, representatives of both groups informed that the incident on Wednesday evening had been unfortunate.
Advocate Sudin Marathe assured that there would be no mass agitation or rally at Valpoi on this issue. “Since both groups have sorted out the issue amicably, the law take its course and we will fully cooperate with the police,” said Marathe.
Sattari Jagruk Yuva Manch President Vishvesh Prabhu has warned people not to politicize the issue and said that no group had the right to disturb peace in Valpoi.
Valpoi Councillor Faizal Shaikh informed that people, irrespective of caste and religion, have always maintained cordial ties and he condemned statements by some political figures who were trying to give a political twist to the incident.
Former VMC Chairperson Aktar Shah and Ranjit Rane also urged the people of Valpoi not to fall prey to rumours and appealed to the people to be united as before. VMC Councilor Sharafat Khan, former Valpoi councillor Faiyaz Beig, Javed Shaikh and Suhas Joshi were also present at the news conference.
