The dog, which was moving near Amshekar Hospital at Valpoi, has bitten seven persons and all the victims were treated at Amshekar Hospital.
When contacted, Dr Ashok Amshekar said some patients and relatives were entering the hospital premises when they were bitten by the rabid dog during the last three days.
“Most of the cases were reported at night and I am treating as many as seven patients of dog bite. Some five persons were bitten by the same dog within a few hours on the same day and another two persons were bitten in the next two days by the same dog,” Dr Amshekar told Herald.
Dr Amshekar said he has written to the Community Health Centre Valpoi and also Valpoi Municipal Council about the rabid dogs moving freely in Valpoi.
“I am of the opinion that if the same dog has bitten other dogs in the vicinity, then the injured dogs will be definitely infected with rabies after a few days. I appeal to authorities concerned to take urgent stock of the situation,” requested Amshekar.
It may be recalled that a few months ago, a rabid dog had bitten four persons on the same day at Valpoi market area.
