Race Organizers Booked After Triathlon Participant’s Death Leads to Culpable Homicide Allegations

More than two months following the tragic demise of a 26-year-old participant from Ranchi during the Ironman 70.3 Goa triathlon race, Goa police have registered a case against the race organizers. Kamakhya Siddharth, an associate manager at a multinational company, passed away due to alleged multiple organ failure after collapsing during an endurance race.

Siddharth, competing in the individual category of the triathlon involving swimming, cycling, and running segments, collapsed merely 500 meters away from the race’s culmination on October 8. Rushed to a private hospital in Dona Paula, he succumbed to his condition the following day.

The victim’s father initiated legal action by filing a zero FIR in Ranchi, which was subsequently forwarded to Goa police. On Wednesday, a case was registered against the race director and other organizers at the Panjim police station.

The FIR alleges a conspiracy on the part of the race organizers, citing their failure to administer medical treatment after Siddharth’s collapse, ultimately leading to his untimely death. Moreover, the complainant accuses the organizers of stealing Siddharth’s wristwatch, deleting his race record (bib number), and erasing CCTV footage of the event, effectively destroying crucial evidence.

The case has been registered under sections IPC 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 379 (theft), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence or giving false information to screen an offender), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy), as per police statements.
