Rachol fisherfolk attend awareness programme on schemes and subsidies

MARGAO: An awareness programme was conducted in Rachol village to benefit the traditional fishing community, with the support of the Rachol village panchayat.

The event focused on informing the fishing community about the various government schemes available, particularly those provided by the Fisheries Department. It included training sessions on seafood value-added product preparations and seashell craft. The Fisheries Department also offered insights into generating income from sea fish waste products, such as seashells, crab shells, and fish thorns.

Villagers were educated about the application process for these schemes and other relevant information. The fishermen present also had the opportunity to voice their suggestions and demands. The event was attended by officials from various departments, including the Fisheries Department, Social Welfare Department, and ITI. The Sarpanch of Rachol, Joseph Vaz, also addressed the gathering.
