Rachol GS objects to Mhadei diversion, flays gas price hike

MARGAO: The Rachol gram sabha passed its resolution objecting to the diversion of Mhadei River and wanting the Central government to revoke the approval granted to the Karnataka government’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the said diversion.

The gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Joseph Vaz also passed another resolution condemning the decision of the government to hike the price of LPG gas cylinders and they further demanded that there be a rollback of the said hike.

In other matters, the panchayat’s annual budget amounting to Rs 1.54 crore was passed and a resolution was taken to take up development works as proposed in it.

There was also a resolution passed to install solar panels at four places in the village, namely above the panchayat ghar, the shed for the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), the two community toilets and at the old harbour.

A decision was also taken to expedite the works of cleaning and repairing drainages as well as maintaining and ‘black topping’ the roads before the monsoon arrives.

The gram sabha went off smoothly while the panchayat has been asked to write to the government regarding its resolutions on the Mhadei diversion and LPG gas hike issues.
