Rachol locals threaten to move HC over discrepancies in MRF shed construction

Raise concerns about several alleged illegalities in a memorandum addressed to Directorate of Panchayats; emphasise that the construction failed to adhere to the approved plan and contravened specific orders issued by the Court

MARGAO: Pointing to the discrepancies in the construction process of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed, Rachol residents on Monday threatened to approach the High Court to seek justice by emphasizing that the construction failed to adhere to the approved plan and contravened specific orders issued by the Court.

Highlighting the deviations from the originally approved blueprints, nearly 20 villagers, in a memorandum addressed to the Directorate of Panchayats, have raised concerns about several alleged illegalities with regards to the construction of the MRF shed.

Querobino Gomes, a villager, revealed findings obtained through the RTI (Right to Information) Act, indicating discrepancies in the construction of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed. According to the documents obtained, the approved plan specified dimensions of 12×7 metres, inclusive of a room.

However, upon inspection by villagers at the site, it was discovered that the constructed MRF shed measured only 9×7 metres, falling short by 3 metres from the planned size.

Troubled by the significant reduction in the size of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed from the approved plan, the villagers questioned the rationale behind this alteration.

They questioned as to who may have benefitted from the discrepancy, suggesting the possibility of financial mismanagement or corruption.

The villagers further noted that an individual in a letter drew the attention of the authority concerned to the alleged illegality. Despite this proactive effort, no response or action has been taken by the Directorate of Panchayats to address the matter.
