Margao police has rounded up around 15 persons carrying out the activity of rap picking and collecting scrap in the city. Late this evening, Margao PI Sudesh Naik was interrogating the suspects, trying to collect clues to achieve a breakthrough in the gruesome murder.
The incident occurred at around 11 pm last night below the Sky bus project at pillar no 25 near the Margao railway station. The unknown deceased, aged around 50-60 year, was lying in a pool of blood after his face was smashed with a cement block used as a road divider.
Upon a complaint received from PSI Ajit Umarye, the Margao police have registered an offence under section 302 of the IPC.
Margao police, who swung into action after receiving the information, have rounded up around 15 suspects, to throw light on the gruesome murder. The police have exuded confidence of achieving a breakthrough in the case.
Incidentally, the murder comes more than a year and half after a girl was kidnapped from the city and sexually assaulted under the sky bus structure, raising questions why the railway property has been left unsecured by the authorities.
Margao PI Sudesh Naik said the since the area falls within the Konkan railway property, it is for the railway police and other authorities to maintain patrolling of the premises. “Bushes have grown all over the KR property. This has come in handy for anti-socials and others to take shelter under the bush cover. We had written to the police in the past, but the thick vegetation in the railway property stands tall till date,” PI Sudesh said.
“The Sky bus pillars too come handy for the anti-socials to take shelter. The body of the deceased was lying right on the raised platform of the pillar,” he added.
Replying to a question, PI Sudesh said that the police are trying to identify the body of the deceased, which will help them to collect clues and ascertain the motive behind the murder.
