MARGAO:  The new Carmona Panchayat at its first monthly meeting on Tuesday decided to have a joint inspection with Town and Country Planning Department of the Raheja’s project in the village and request the builder to not commence any work on the site till then.
New Sarpanch Winston Dias, conceding that the earlier panchayat had given the builders the construction license, emphasised that it was done without holding a site inspection and they intend to conduct the inspection soon as per norms. The joint inspection will also ascertain whether the project has the access road as shown in the plan.
Highlighting that the new panchayat body was elected on an anti-Raheja platform, panch Allwyn Jorge said they would call on the Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai and brief him on the issue.
Referring to a site inspection report dated October 12, 2015, he said, the TCP had suggested keeping the project on hold till the land acquisition status was confirmed.
Allwyn asserted that a site inspection was essential to expose the truth and lamented that the previous panchayat body issued the construction license without holding a site inspection.
However, former sarpanch and present panch Sandra Fernandes said there was no need to hold a site inspection as Raheja’s had submitted a revised plan, providing details.
She added that the report showed where exactly the cross and well were situated as people had earlier objected that the two landmarks did not feature in the report.
