Rahul Gandhi calls Women’s Quota Bill a ‘distraction tactic’

In a recent statement, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi voiced that the Women’s Reservation Bill is great and should be implemented as soon as possible. He called for the removal of the conditions related to delimitation and census, emphasizing that these requirements could lead to significant delays. According to Gandhi, the Reservation Bill can and should be put into action without unnecessary delay.

Gandhi also highlighted the importance of ensuring proper representation of the OBC (Other Backward Classes) as per their population proportion. He expressed concerns that the quota bill might be viewed as a diversion from the crucial issue of conducting a caste census in the country.

“The Women’s Reservation Bill is great but we received footnotes that caste census and delimitation need to be done before that. Both of these will take years. The truth is that 33 per cent reservation can be given to women in Parliament and State Assemblies today. This is not a complicated matter but the government doesn’t want to do that. The government has presented this before the country but it will be implemented 10 years from now. Nobody knows if this will even be implemented. This is a distraction tactic, a diversion tactic,” Gandhi stated.
