PANJIM: Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi will interact with traditional fishermen, anti-coal protestors, mining affected people and tribal people during his Goa visit on Saturday, October 30.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar on Wednesday said that soon after his arrival at the Dabolim airport, Gandhi will proceed to Velsao-Pale where will interact with fisherfolk community and a delegation of people affected by railway double track and coal transportation in the port town between 11.45 am to 12.45 pm.
Later, Gandhi will proceed to Panjim where he will meet a delegation of mining affected people and a delegation of Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities at 3 pm at The International Centre Goa, Dona Paula.
Chodankar said that a delegation of mining affected people had earlier met Gandhi and now he will meet people running roadside tea stalls, restaurants and tyre repair/vulcanizing shops since their livelihood is affected by the closure of mining activity nine years ago.
Gandhi will also address Congress workers convention called “Jagor” at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao Plateau at 4 pm.
Chodankar said that Gandhi’s visit will give an opportunity to the party cadre to interact with him. Gandhi will also set a direction to the Congress party in Goa. He said that Gandhi’s one-day visit will galvanise the rank and file of the party and enthuse the cadre to reach out to the people.
Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is visiting Goa at a time when the State is passing through a difficult phase.
