MARGAO: Taking note of the due process not followed by the authorities concerned with regards to land acquired for burial ground at Sonsoddo, the Fabrica Committee of Raia Church has now decided to fight a legal battle.

William Barretto, Attorney of Raia Church Fabrica said the committee is in the process of seeking legal advice from the lawyers so that they can move ahead objecting to the process followed by the authorities concerned.

It is pertinent to note that on Wednesday too, the locals of Raia and Borda had again objected to the process followed by the authorities pertaining to demarcation of the acquired land for burial ground at Sonsoddo, wherein even workers of Margao municipality were forced to return when they tried to clean the area.

“Fabrica of Raia wants to make it clear that we are not against kabrastan, but the authorities have failed to follow the due process. They failed to serve notices to the Fabrica Committee, which got the ownership of the neighbouring property,” he said.

He said the above mentioned land was acquired as a burial ground for all communities and not only one.

A day before Blaze Mota, a court intervener said that he was shocked to hear from the authorities that land has been demarcated, despite people’s objections to the process followed by them.

According to reliable sources, Margao municipality is in a tight position to assist the GSUDA to complete the pending process, as the next hearing on the issue is approaching.

Blaze said that he will bring to the notice of the court about the wrong process followed by the authorities causing disturbance among the people.
