MARGAO: MLA Reginaldo Aleixo Lourenco’s timely intervention stopped an agitation planned by the Raia Farmers Club today over sewerage waste destroying their fields.
At the Arlem junction along the Eastern bypass, the sewerage pipeline has apparently ruptured and sewage is seeping into the fields angering the farmers.
Apparently the same problem had occurred at the same place about two years ago and the locals were demanding a permanent solution and had prepared to sit on a dharna today.
However, Reginaldo arrived at the scene in the morning with officials of the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd and inspected the site where even the officials admitted that there was seepage of sewage into the fields.
The officials agreed to rectify the problem and also investigate the cause even if it meant digging up the road. Satisfied with the development, the farmers cancelled their proposed agitation.
