Raia Farmers Club pledge to plough fallow land

MARGAO: Raia Farmers Club-Arlem (RFC) on Sunday pledged to fight against all the odds in order to bring the fallow land under cultivation.

On Sunday, the Club distributed vegetable seeds and fertilizers to nearly 100 farmers engaged in farming activities in and around Arlem.  Fr Venture Lourenco, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Livramento Church-Arlem distributed seeds and fertilizers in the presence of Menino Fernandes, President, RFC and Romaldo Gonsalves, General Secretary, which was attended by nearly 100 farmers. 

Addressing the gathering Fr Lourenco appealed to the farmers to stress on agricultural activities. Appreciating the initiative of RFC, he also stated that the farmers should not lose the opportunity of taking benefits of schemes and services provided by the RFC. “It is high time that even our youth should give serious thought on taking steps towards the farming activities,” he appealed. 

Menino Fernandes stated that their club has pledged to resolve all the issues pertaining to farming activities in the agricultural fields located in the vicinity of Arlem and surrounding areas.

“Our club will stress on resolving the hardships faced by the farmers, besides providing them all the required services so that they think positively with regard to agriculture,” he informed. 

Romaldo Gonsalves said that they want fallow agriculture to be brought under cultivation. “Our next aim is that each and every agricultural land is cultivated and for which the club will offer their full support in any way possible,” he stated. 

Interestingly, several farmers present at the function too expressed their satisfaction and vowed to take farming activities, including growing vegetables after the harvesting of paddy crops.
