MARGAO: Raia Village Panchayat at special gram sabha held on Saturday resolved to install CCTV surveillance cameras near Sonsoddo dump yard in order to track the illegal dumping of waste in village panchayat area.
According to Sarpanch Minguelina D’Souza, it has also been resolved to strengthen the Village Development Committee.
“Gram sabha has resolved to install CCTV cameras near the Sonsoddo dump yard so that the illegal dumping is cracked down on the priority basis,” she informed. This issue with regard to the same was discussed at the meeting. It was brought to the notice of the members of gram sabha that regular dumping of waste by some unknown culprits was witnessed near the Sonsoddo dump yard, inside the panchayat area.
“The panchayat had taken an initiative to clean the area in the past. However, dumping continued despite the warning. After the investigation at panchayat level it was revealed that mostly bio-medical waste was dumped at the site. We had even identified nearly 15 establishments,” Minguelina stated.
It was also resolved to complete the pending projects under the 14th Finance Commission.
