Raia locals highlight PWD’s lethargy to repair leaking water pipeline valve

Thousands of litres of water getting wasted due to leakage in the valve of pipeline for over a decade

MARGAO: Raia locals on Saturday highlighted lethargy of the PWD Water Division for failing to repair a leakage in valve of pipeline at Manora, Raia.

The locals alleged that the PWD officials failed to repair the valve, despite registering several complaints.

With no serious intention to repair the valve, water is getting wasted by flowing into the gutters till today, near the St Anthony Chapel, Manora. 

It has been revealed that thousands of litres of water getting wasted due to leakage in the valve of pipeline since for the last 10 to 15 years. 

It is pertinent to note that several parts of Goa are still waiting for the regular water supply and public are facing a tough time even to get drinking water. The issue pertaining to irregular water supply keeps on making the headlines in the media on a regular basis. Adding further, the people are now struggling with the hefty water bills issued by the department.  

Speaking to Herald, Menino Quadros, a local pointed out the water leakage problem at Manora and expressed shock that the department is least bothered to repair the same.

“It is unfortunate to state that thousands of litres of water has been wasted, and continue to waste for a simple reason and there is no seriousness shown towards the issue from the part of PWD,” he alleged. 

He said, “For the last 10 to 15 years water is getting wasted due to leakage in the valve.” 

“The locals have complained to the department on several occasions, but failed to repair it, and as result several accidents have been reported at the spot due to slippery road,” Quadros claimed. 

Luis Caitan Quadros, former sarpanch also expressed anger over the issue and said that the concerned officials are just neglecting the genuine grievances raised by the locals.

“I had complained to the concerned officials several times before, but the department is least bothered to show any seriousness in resolving the issue. Why can’t the department and the officials take initiative to save the water, instead of targeting the common man,” he questioned. 

Several other locals expressed disappointment due to the approach shown by the department in repairing the valve, which can be done in hardly half an hour of time.
