MARGAO: In order to promote agricultural activities amongst the villagers, the newly constituted panchayat body of Raia in their first meeting on Friday resolved to focus on kitchen gardens in the village.
The meeting went on for a long, and most of the time was spent in clearing the pending correspondence and applications from the villagers. The panchayat has decided to call for another meeting within the next fifteen days.
“One of the important resolutions taken during the first meeting was to organize an agricultural camp in the village so that farmers are encouraged and facilitated to take up more agricultural activities,” said Sarpanch Judas Quadros. He added that the camp will be organized in collaboration with the State Agriculture Department.
“We have even planned to engage the senior citizens in kitchen garden activities at their homes so that they remain occupied and get food security, and this will also help keep them fit and healthy,” said Quadros.
“We have cleared most of the correspondence which was pending for the last few months and hence the panchayat body was not able to take any other new decisions during this first meeting,” he added.
