MARGAO: The Raia panchayat is looking out for a place to tackle the wet garbage as the action plan to resolve the dry waste will be executed in February.
At the executive meetings held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the panchayat has decided to start with the collection of dry waste thrice a month instead of once.
It is pertinent to note that the Raia panchayat just like other panchayats is facing a tough time with regards to the garbage menace and more importantly the waste dumped on the roadside.
“The panchayat is very serious towards resolving the garbage issue and the only aim is to keep the village clean,” said Sarpanch Judas Quadros.
He informed that from February dry waste from the jurisdiction of the panchayat will be collected thrice a month instead of once.
“Panchayat is eagerly waiting to fix a place so that wet waste is tackled as it cannot be handled at the MRF shed. The MRF shed is surrounded by a few educational institutions and shops, and hence the panchayat is in need of separate land for the same,” said Judas.
It is pertinent to note that there were major issues in the panchayat jurisdiction with regards to dumping of waste on the roadside, wherein panchayat had also observed that chicken waste is also dumped which has caused major hardship to the locals.
The panchayat members have also noted some black spots at Arlem Bypass and near the road leading to Raia where the Sonsoddo dump yard is located. The Sarpanch said the panchayat has also resolved to upgrade the panchayat hall.
