MARGAO: The Raia Village Panchayat gram sabha was adjourned to March 21 due to lack of time and space due to social distancing norm, on Sunday.

Initially, the gram sabha commenced in a very small place wherein no social distancing could to maintained and due to surge in crowd it had to shift to a nearby hall.

The villagers objected to the proceedings of gram sabha for not maintaining a social distance as the number of people gathered touched nearly 200. Ultimately, the gram sabha started at around 11.15 am.

Discussions on the Budget took nearly one hour as there were many discrepancies observed. For example, the annual income which has been usually pegged at around Rs 95 lakh was suddenly projected to be Rs 4.82 crore without any justification or explanation.

As the gram sabha is now scheduled to be continued on March 21, the panchayat was asked to present a revised Budget that is reliable and factual instead of relying on mere hypothesis and projections.

The Public Biodiversity Register was presented to the gram sabha by Chairman of the Committee Xavier Fernandes, which was accepted by the gram sabha.

The revised Budget and suggestions from people will now be taken up for discussion on March 21.
