Raia Village Panchayat Issues Show-Cause Notice to Illegal Scrapyard Following Health and Safety Concerns

The Raia Village Panchayat has taken a stringent stance against an illegal scrapyard located in Arlem, issuing a show-cause notice to the owners in response to long-standing illegal activities reported by locals. Godfrey Oswald Souza, deputy Sarpanch, called for immediate action, advocating for the dismissal of the scrapyard owner due to concerning findings.

The scrapyard, operating at the site since 2000, drew attention due to numerous complaints from residents highlighting the ongoing illegalities. Souza emphasized the discovery of hazardous salvageable waste on the premises, raising significant health and safety concerns for the neighbourhood’s inhabitants.

Following a joint inspection by Souza and the panchayat secretary, a detailed complaint was lodged, prompting the issuance of a show-cause notice to the scrapyard owner. The inspection revealed the presence of harmful salvageable waste, further amplifying the urgency to address the potential risks posed to human health within the vicinity.
