MARGAO: Raia villagers and panchayat have expressed frustration over the illegal construction of the base foundation for a mobile network tower inside the compound of panchayat ground. Panchayat secretary has filed a criminal case against the company at Maina-Curtorim police station and urged for stern action.
The mobile network company has just constructed the base of the tower at the main entrance gate inside the ground. However, the work went unnoticed by the panchayat, which is just 100 metres away from the office.
Anthony Barbosa, a villager said that they were shocked to see the illegal construction of the tower, and no action from the panchayat.
“When inquired about the construction work with the panchayat, all were unaware about the same. The panchayat has not given any permission or no objection certificate to any mobile network company to erect the tower inside the ground”, he stated.
“How come the panchayat is unaware of the illegal construction of the tower, which is just a few metres away from the office?” he questioned. “We (villagers) have urged strict action against those involved in the illegalities. We are not opposing to the tower but it should be at a proper place and erected legally”, said Anthony.
Sarpanch Minguelina D’Souza and Secretary Prabhakar Kamati said that they have filed a complaint against one Rohidas Kansekar, who is the officer of one mobile network companies.
Sarpanch said that the accused person has trespassed into the property of the panchayat and has constructed a base foundation using concrete for the mobile tower. The said work was constructed in the month of January.
