VASCO: The Ministry of Railway has sanctioned Vasco MLA Krishna `Daji’ Salkar’s proposal to increase the height of four metres of the railway overbridge near Tanya Hotel, here for the movement of vehicles in the areas of Mestawada and Mangor Hill.
After inspecting the site along with Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Leo Rodrigues, ward councillor Girish Borkar and others, Salkar on Thursday said that the height of the existing railway overbridge which was low and posed problems to emergency vehicles like fire brigade and ambulance will now be solved as the Railway Ministry has agreed to increase the height by four metres.
Salkar said that major difficulty was faced at the time of naptha fire leakage at Dactolem, Vasco a few years ago and since then he had planned to get the height of the overbridge increased. He said that after he was elected as MLA, he took this issue before the Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnav and railway authorities and got approved the revised plan.
Salkar informed that the height of the railway overbridge which was two metres will now be increased to four metres which will provide adequate access to heavy vehicles and emergency vehicles in particular.
“This is an example of the BJP double engine government where we have got this Vasco beneficial project approved within three months as a gift from the Centre as this will solve all the issues of Vasco,” he said.
Rodrigues said that increasing the height of the railway overbridge was the need of the hour as it was posing problems to emergency vehicles catering to the Baina area.
