MARGAO: Railways Passenger Service Committee recently inspected the railway stations of Goa and has instructed to discontinue use of single-use plastics from October 2.
The committee conducted inspections of Vasco, Dabolim, Cansaulim, Sanvordem and Kulem Railway stations and some other railway stations coming under the jurisdiction of Konkan Railway.
The committee comprised Ramesh Chandra Ratn and members Sadanand Mhalu Shet Tanavade, KK Vidyarthi, Jai L Nagwani, and Venkataramani. Murali Krishna, Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Hubballi Division; Krishna Chaitanya, Divisional Commercial Manager, and other senior railway officials were also present. The committee took stock of the catering/vending stalls, bookstalls, water booths, platform surface improvements, etc. The Committee interacted with passengers travelling from Vasco to Kullem and said they were satisfied with the cleanliness on the stations and trains.
The committee also inspected the food plaza at Vasco and checked the documents and availability of JanataKhana.
Checking the CCTV surveillance at Vasco, the committee suggested providing additional stainless steel chairs at the platform No. 1 at Vasco.
Vasco MLA Jose Carlos Almeida met the committee during their inspection at Vasco and discussed the various issues pertaining to Vasco Da Gama Railway Station.
Cansaulim MLA Alina Saldanha, whilst meeting the committee members highlighted the requirement of a foot-over bridge at Cansaulim. The committee also instructed to take up various development activities at Cansaulim station.
Minister of Power, Environment, Law and Judiciary Nilesh Cabral met the committee at Sanvordem and suggested for the provision of additional chairs under the CSR initiative.
