MARGAO: Asserting that they are only laying the second track in railway acquired property, Railways Project Manager P P Sinha assured the people of Guirdolim including panchas that a retaining wall would be constructed first near the old railway station.
Accompanied with other officials, who came with the plans, the railway officials on Monday inspected the site near the old Chandor Railway Station where the villagers feared the ageold stream would be totally buried to lay the second track.
The panchas asked the officials to submit their plans to the panchayat so that they could understand and also explain to the villagers what is happening. The officials were then taken to the Nacasana Lake where part of the water body is already filled with mud and Sinha pointed out that they were filling land only in railway property which extends to 24 mts and in fact the existing sluice gate is in railway property.
He said they would construct a retailing wall leaving aside the sluice gate and then do the land filling so that mud does not slide into the water body. He said the retaining wall will be constructed by May 20th.
He said the work would commence only when the acquisition process is completed and added that the Railways would construct a separate channel for the water to flow on the other side of the lake.
