Railways to invest Rs 3000 cr in Goa on double tracking

Prabhu agrees to run Goa-Tirupati biweekly train from Sept 15; lays foundation stone for road over-bridge at in Davorlim

MARGAO:  Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that the Konkan Railways would invest Rs 3000 crore in Goa on double tracking and other works. He also agreed to run Goa-Tirupati biweekly train from September 15.
Prabhu announced to run the Goa-Tirupati train on the request of South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar.
Prabhu was speaking at the foundation stone laying function for a road over-bridge at railway crossing LC-47 in Davorlim, on Sunday.
Eight road over-bridges (ROB) at various railway crossings will be constructed, of which five would built on the Konkan railway route around Margao city in South Goa and three on the Southern Western Route on 50:50 cost sharing basis.
The estimated cost of the ROB at Davorlim including the approaches is Rs 28.24 crore.
The level crossing No 47 situated across Davorlim and Rawanfond road is one of the busy gates and the road cuts across four railway tracks including Margao-Balli line of KR, Margao-Chandor line of South Western Railway line and two tracks used for coach maintenance. Due to this, road users have to wait for long time continuously.
“As a relief to the public, the Government of Goa and Konkan Railway have come together to construct the ROB with long spans covering all four railway tracks on 50:50 cost sharing basis,” said Prabhu.
The proposed 490 meter long bridge is being constructed along the existing road and to minimise the area of land acquisition. It is proposed to use the latest technology of “reinforced earth” embankment for the approaches. Due to this technology, only 4700 sq mts of land needs to be acquired along the existing road where there are no structures or buildings.
Those present on the occasion include Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and Velim MLA Benjamin Silva.
