MARGAO: South Goa MP Capt Viriato Fernandes visited retired home guard Vimal Shirodkar after her dilapidated structure collapsed partially on Sunday, in Shirvodem.
Vimal and her brother were rendered homeless after their mud house collapsed with the incessant downpour.
On being informed the MP rushed to visit Vimal and offered his help.
He then informed the Collector who sent officers immediately to do the site inspection and take estimates to repair the house.
Vimal, who retired a few years ago as a home guard after 34 years of service, was a familiar figure in Margao, as she regularly regulated traffic near the Marliz Café, braving heat and rain. She was overjoyed to receive the help.
Vimal Shirodkar, Ex Traffic Home Guard who helped manage Traffic in Margao with much dedication (most of her tenure infront of Marliz), is rendered homeless as a nearby house wall collapsed on her small hut like structure.
Vimal does not receive any pension because Home Guards are not entitled to it. She is not a beneficiary of any social welfare schemes and has little money saved from her meager earnings. According to Vimal, her brother provides her with some money.
