PANJIM: As the monsoon hit Goa last month, Tourism Department has commenced adventure activities with white water rafting and weekend trekking expeditions to attract tourists and locals.
Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Chairman Nilesh Cabral said the two monsoon adventure activities have become popular and bookings are full.
“White water rafting has become very popular during the monsoon. Tourists and Goans have been availing of this during the last three years and we are confident that in 2016 we will also get an overwhelming response,” he said.
The facility is available from July to October subject to availability of rapids, adequate water currents and suitable weather conditions. There will be two trips a day for persons above 12 years of age.
GTDC also launched trekking expeditions in June to different places in the State and the border areas. Coming Sunday the hike will be to Pali waterfall, at Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary. “One can also watch a number of butterflies and birds on their way to the waterfall, and also visit Budbudyachem Tallem (bubbling lake) en route,” he said.
With the two activities being promoted through various forums, Tourism Department and GTDC are marketing local monsoon festivals in a bid to attract tourists as part of the ‘raindrop tourism plan’.
